A  typical workout should take no longer than an hour.  In fact, some of the more efficient workouts can be completed within 45 minutes.  That’s all you need to get a good workout in as long as you are there to focus.  If you are spending significantly more than that, these tips might help you make the most of your time in the gym.

1.  Ditch the Cell

Text, email, and calls can wait.  Enjoy a break from technology in this social media crazed world and give your undivided attention to your workout.

2. Skip the Chit Chat

You don’t have to be antisocial by any means, but try your best to avoid chatting with friends in the middle of your workout.  It will disrupt your focus and kill your flow.  Socialize before or after your session to minimize distraction

3. Come Prepared

Write your workout beforehand and bring it with you to the gym.  You don’t need a bulky notebook and pen either, just write it on a piece of paper, fold it up, and put it in your pocket.  This way, you won’t waste time wandering around and can seamlessly move from one exercise to the next.

4. Crank Up the Intensity

If your workouts are taking too long or you simply feel like you’re going through the motions in the gym, try incorporating some intensity techniques like supersets (post entirely on supersets is coming soon) or circuit training.  By shortening your rest time between sets, you will ignite your metabolism and have extremely time efficient workouts.

5. Freshen Up Your Playlist

Everyone knows music can help with your workouts.  But after a while, Eminem’s Lose Yourself might lose it’s pop.  Ask a friend or type in your favorite genre on Pandora to find new songs to download.  This will help renew your motivation to dominate your workout.
