Getting into amazing shape takes more than a dedicated workout routine.  A smart diet is crucial, too.  The both need to work in synergy to have a healthy, lean body.  The basics of a healthy nutrition plan are widely know: avoid sweets, consume lots of fruit, vegetables, and lean proteins, etc.  However, there are certain items that can help expedite the fat loss process.  Below is a list of the best foods for fat loss, and why you should incorporate them!

bananas

1. Black Coffee

Black coffee is one of the best natural fat burners available.  It is packed with antioxidants and caffeine that will crank up your metabolism and help you burn fat.  In fact, having a cup of Joe before a workout can cause fat cells in to be used as an energy source as opposed to muscle glycogen.

2. Bananas

Convenient, tasty, and filling, bananas make a great addition to any weight loss diet.  They are packed with vitamins and nutrients and can help stabilize your blood sugar to decrease cravings.

3. Low Sodium Hot Sauce

Most sauces are either extremely high in saturated fat, sodium, or both, which make them avoided on most weight loss diets.   Hot sauce on the other hand, can work as a thermogenic which will increase your body heat causing you to burn extra calories.  Opt for a low sodium hot sauce (I like Trader Joe’s “Chili Pepper Sauce,” it has 0mg of sodium) to achieve a super ripped body, as the higher sodium versions can cause you to retain water.

avocado

4. Avocado

The monounsaturated fats found in avocados will help you get and stay lean.  They are an inexpensive food that can be added to virtually any meal.  Add a few slices with your eggs in the morning, on a sandwich, or make a healthy guacamole dip.

5. Celery

Another superfood to add to your fat burning arsenal.  It is high in fiber which will keep you full for longer.  Plus, due to its dense structure, your body will use extra energy to break it down, causing an increase in metabolism.

6. Old Fashioned Oatmeal

This is one of the best carbohydrates you can consume when looking to drop weight.  Old Fashioned (as opposed to Quick 1-minute) oatmeal is a slowly digested, low glycemic carbohydrate that will be released into your bloodstream evenly and gradually.  This will help you avoid a blood sugar spike and help you steer clear of a junk food binge.

7. Water

Most people overlook the importance of water in your diet.  It is crucial to consume water throughout the day no matter what your fitness goals are, but it can be used as a secret weapon to fight cravings.  When cravings strike, have a few glasses of water and you will feel full, and less likely to indulge.

8. Black Beans

These are an overlooked, but highly effective fat loss food.  Their high fiber and protein content will fill you up, and with almost no saturated fat they are a great choice any time of the day.

9. Salmon

Salmon, like avocados, contain essential fatty acids which your body needs to burn fat.  It is also high in protein and packed with antioxidants.  Include in your diet 1-2 times per week to experience the fat loss benefits.
